Taking care of your jewellery
Pure silver is a precious metal and usually alloyed with copper to enhance its durability and prevent it from damage. Sterling silver consists of 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper. Fine silver is 99.9% pure and is generally too soft for use in many jewellery applications, therefore silver is usually alloyed with other metals to give it strength. Care should be taken to prevent it from tarnishing.
Here are some of the important tips to take care of jewellery.
One should store sterling silver jewellery away from moisture and direct contact with water (remove before showering and swimming). Moisturizers, perfumes, hair and body products may affect your jewellery, so it is best to apply them before wearing your jewellery. You should also wear your silver jewellery often to avoid tarnish. One should store silver in airtight plastics bags or plastics box. Never store multiple jewellery in same plastic bag, always try to keep them in separate boxes.
Easy way to preserve your jewellery is to place a piece of chalk or silica gel in the storage area.
